Confidently Incorrect

Conrad is wrong about many things as he is right about many things. this is what happens when you don’t know what you’re talking about and you don’t stop to measure your word count in your manuscript sermon.

Two big things he’s incorrect about is  how salvation works,  and what  liberty of conscience means .

How do we remain saved?

The problem is that preachers who emphasize this perspective on a faith that requires works, is that it is confused about a very fundamental question

This is so close to being correct it tantalizes me. So close and yet so eternally far away.

Conrad says we remain saved by obedience if it’s done as a response of love. In other words. If you do the right thing it wont save you, unless you love so much that you love god and thus we don’t call it legalism, we call it saving faith. Same thing, we just call it something different now.

The problem is that preachers who emphesise this perspective on a faith that requires works, is that it is confused about a very fundamental question  Salvation from what?

A Plant-like Faith

Let’s come over to the white board so we can get a better understanding of the paradigm.

There’s this really cool video on the the matter that get’s so close to the heart of the issue that i want to share it with you and push it even further. Many of us have been praying to see real change in our lives and in the lives of our families.

Salvation is about Sin

salvation is not about he rules, and it is not about vindicating god’s character. The great controversy theme is about those things. but your salvation is not a matter of you making a difference.

It’s not even about you loving God, because god’s rescue precedes our new relationship to him. Salvation doesn’t require new relation, it ENABLES it.

Matthew 1:21 ESV

21 She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.”

1 Thessalonians 4:3 ESV

3 For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality;

Titus 3:5–6 NIV

5 he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, 6 whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior,

Titus 3:5–6 MSG

5 he saved us from all that. It was all his doing; we had nothing to do with it. He gave us a good bath, and we came out of it new people, washed inside and out by the Holy Spirit. 6 Our Savior Jesus poured out new life so generously.

Titus 3:5–6 NKJV

5 not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, 6 whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior,

Titus 3:5–6 KJV 1900

5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; 6 Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour;

Titus 3:5–6 RVR60

Ok and so how does this happen. do we regenerate ourselves? Do we bring about new growth by some mindset or some action or some relationship?

No.

John 3:3–5 ESV

3 Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” 4 Nicodemus said to him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?” 5 Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.

I am not saved

there is no salvation to be had for me that get’s me to heaven. It does not exist. Salvation exists to solve the sin problem in my life. not as a meanwhile but as a growth that has a lifetime effect, not by my merits, relational nor practical.

It cannot be by those things because Those are the end goal. the end goal can in no way be the means.

The truth is then. We are not saved because we don’t want to be saved. We want God to take us somewhere, but we don’t yearn for God to take away the desires and belief systems that produce those sins.

If you have wrestled and failed year after year, for what feels like a lifetime this message is for you. you are not saved, and you cannot begin a journey of redemption until you choose to believe that salvation is right around the corner.
